Motorcycle Safety

Motorcycle Safety - Overview

Dakota County Technical College has partnered with the Minnesota Motorcycle Safety Center (MMSC), Driver and Vehicle Service (a division of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety), Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, and community and corporate sponsors to provide one of the most comprehensive safety programs in the world. MMSC and DCTC are committed to reducing motorcycle crashes, injuries, and fatalities.

The MMSC and DCTC offer:

Basic Rider Course • $160
This course is designed for riders who have never operated a motorcycle, and we supply the bikes! We have an agreement
with the state that allows us to test riders who are 18 years of age or older, for their endorsements, so you can learn to ride and get your temporary license—all in one place.

Advanced Motorcycle Course • $55
If you are comfortable on your own motorcycle and ready to try something new, this five-hour course will build upon your existing skills and knowledge. Relatively new motorcyclists, returning riders, and experienced motorcyclists can all benefit from this course.

Moped Training • $25
The four-hour, classroom-only moped course is a great introduction to riding. The course is required for those who do not have a driver's license, are at least 15 years of age, and wish to ride a moped on the street.

Street Smarts Workshop • $20
This is a two-hour interactive workshop for riders of all skill levels.  Topics include attitude, hazard awareness, riding strategy, riding skills, and protective gear.

Forms:

* If you are 18 or older and you want to obtain your motorcycle endorsement, you must have a motorcycle permit prior to attending the course.

Research shows that rider education is the most critical aspect of any motorcycle safety project. Many dealerships, shops, and
insurance companies offer discounts to Basic Rider Course and Advanced Motorcycle graduates.

To see the current list please check out MMSC’S website: www.motorcyclesafety.state.mn.us or call 651.423.8027 for more information.

Cancellation Policy:

Due to the vast number of registrations for these courses, you will be allowed to reschedule your course date once without forfeiting your tuition. To cancel or reschedule a course, you must contact DCTC Motorcycle Safety Registration Line (651-423-8027) five days prior to class. There will be no refunds for late cancellations or "NO SHOWS".
